Songs

The Songs Gallery  is part of Dorothea Barth's Poetry Gallery.  All prose and poetry postings on this website are copyrighted to the author,  Dorothea Barth.

I wrote these lyrics for a niece who was in high school at the time and who was a singer. We never got around to writing the music for it, and same niece is now pursuing an acting and college career.

The songs below were my first attempt at pop lyrics.

  • What Victory?

    by Dorothea Barth ©2008

    Verse
    Brought up on Big Brother
    And Survivor too
    Who’s the Biggest Loser?
    Will Bachelor choose you?

    Verse
    Outwit, outsmart, outrageous
    Kindness cannot win
    Machiavellian madness
    Winner’s greatest sin

    Chorus
    What victory in winning
When no longer you can love
    Is there any triumph
    When you’ve shot the dove?

    Verse
Who can sing a better tune?
    Who goes home today?
    Which melody unworthy?
    Whose beauty may not stay?

    (Instrumental Interlude here)

    Chorus
    What victory in winning
When no longer you can love
    Is there any triumph
    When you’ve shot the dove?

    Repeat Chorus
    What victory in winning
When no longer you can love
    Is there any triumph
    When you’ve shot the dove

  • Not for Everyone

    by Dorothea Barth ©2008
    Written for Leah

    Verse 1
    Missing from school
    Missing from MySpace
    Breaking your rule
    Found a new place.

    Chorus
    It’s not for everyone
    Through passion must be won
    When solitude becomes a friend
    Yet kinship will abound
New friends my way have found
    A beginning, not an end.

    Verse 2
    Friendship you repeal
    Saying I’m a fake
It’s your heart that’s not real
    And mine didn’t break

    Solo (instrumental)

    Bridge
I wish you all the best
And hope that you will find
That spark that gives no rest
    And beauty that is kind

    Chorus
    It’s not for everyone
    Through passion must be won
    When solitude becomes a friend
    Yet kinship will abound
New friends my way have found
    A beginning, not an end.

    Repeat Chorus
    It’s not for everyone
    Through passion must be won
    When solitude becomes a friend
    Yet kinship will abound
New friends my way have found
    A beginning, not an end.
